Hi, I'm Fiona Akal, a Medicare Endorsed Mental Health Occupational Therapist and Counsellor based in Maclean.

I enjoy working alongside people as they navigate life's challenges. Whether someone is managing mental health difficulties, disability, neurodivergence, chronic health conditions, pain, fatigue, or a significant life transition, my focus is on understanding what is happening in the context of their whole life and finding practical ways forward.

My background spans mental health, disability, rehabilitation, aged care, and physical health settings across Australia and overseas. With qualifications in Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Education, and Counselling, I bring together an understanding of both emotional wellbeing and the everyday realities of work, home life, relationships, health, and participation in meaningful activities.

I take a collaborative and down-to-earth approach. I don't believe there is a single approach that works for everyone, and I value taking the time to understand each person's unique circumstances, strengths, challenges, and goals. Where appropriate, I work closely with families, carers, support workers, and other professionals to ensure support is practical, coordinated, and meaningful.

I also recognise that no one clinician can be everything to everyone. If your needs fall outside my area of expertise, I will always do my best to help you find the right person or service rather than leaving you to navigate it alone.

Based in the Clarence Valley, I am proud to support people within my local community as well as clients across Australia through Telehealth.
